Andrew Smith, known to his family and friends as A.J. or Jack, 79, of Bucyrus, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025 after a short illness.
A.J. was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Anna Garcia-Smith. A.J. was born June 8, 1945, in Sawyer, Kentucky, to the late Lola and Lummer Smith.
Survivors include his children, Vicky Jo (Duane) Albers of North Carolina, Billy Jack Smith of Ohio and Regina Rea Hoffman of Florida. He is survived by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Muerl Smith of Ohio, Jerry Smith, Rose Griffis, Tom Smith, Phyllis Ridner, Janie Perry, Odell Smith all of Kentucky.
A.J. was preceded in death by his brothers, Archie Smith and Mitch Smith of Ohio and a sister, Pearly Virginia Smith.
A.J. retired as a Union Organizer for the International Union of Operating Engineers. He was a member of Mason Lodge 139 Bucyrus. During retirement he enjoyed spending time skeet shooting, hunting, fishing and attending auctions.
His children will privately celebrate his life at a later date. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with their arrangements.
