Barbara Farrington Obituary

Barbara Jean Farrington-- beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt of Marion, Ohio-- peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020, at Marion General Hospital. She was seventy-five years of age and the epitome of a purpose driven life.

Barbara was born in Florence, Alabama, on August 28, 1945, to the late Weldon and Pauline Farrington.

Barbara J. Farrington graduated from Santiago High School in Garden Grove, California; the Los Angeles Sheriff's Academy; and earned a BA in Liberal Studies from California State University, Northridge, California; and a JD from Cleveland Marshall College of Law, where she was Articles Editor for the Law Review, the recipient of numerous academic awards, an intern for the Honorable Sam E. Bell, United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio; and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Barbara’s career spanned approximately 30 years and included feats such as serving as a Deputy Sheriff for Los Angeles County; owning a successful small business; becoming Associate Attorney for Baker & Hostetler, Cleveland, Ohio; acting as VP, Legal Counsel at Central Reserve Life Insurance Company in, Strongsville, Ohio; and as VP, Associate General Counsel for Conseco Services, LLC. (Conseco, Inc.) in, Carmel, Indiana. In addition to being a co-founder/principal of Risk Review Services, Inc., Ms. Farrington practiced law in the State of Ohio where she maintained a law firm--, Farrington and Associates, Ltd.; Barbara retired from the Ohio Department of Insurance in 2016. Ms. Farrington was a member of the Ohio State Bar, Marion County Bar, and the National Health Lawyers Associations.

Barbara was a nationally recognized expert in fraud detection and prevention in the life insurance industry. Beginning in early 1998, while working at Conseco, Ms. Farrington provided legal counsel to identify, investigate, and remove fraudulent business from Conseco's book of business. Barbara generously and prolifically contributed her expertise to various insurance departments across the country, including those in California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, New York, Ohio, and Tennessee; and to members of the law enforcement community, including FBI, IRS, FTC, Medicare; Medicaid, state fraud units, and members of the United States Postal Inspection Service, including the USPIS task force based out of Carmel, Indiana, dubbed, "Operation Cleansheeting."

Before starting her law career, Barbara believed staying-at-home with her three daughters was essential to their growth. Hence, Barbara devoted many years, filling their days with activities, play, and homemade meals consisting of three different choices. Barbara set high expectations for her daughters, and because of Barbara’s devotion, love, and support, all three of her daughters are exceptional mothers, enjoy fulfilling careers, and are kind individuals just as their mother intended. Paula Rae, Karen Elaine, and Christine Denise are Barbara Farrington’s most significant accomplishments.

Barbara is survived by her three daughters: Paula (Christopher) Brazell of Marion, OH; Karen (Phil) Gentile of Knoxville, TN;, and Christine (Rob) Angiocchi of Broadview Heights, OH., She also leaves behind an established legacy for nine grandchildren: (Nicholas, Jonathan, Emma, Olivia, Andrew, Lauren, Faith, Matthew, and Kate); and a sister, Brenda Farrington of Santa Ana, California;, niece Stephanie (Erik) Piazza, nephew Eric (Amber) Myers, and great-nephew Elliott of Fullerton, CA.
