Bernice Irene (Waire) Mira, 96, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 at St. Francis Home in Tiffin.
Bernice was born on August 27, 1927 in Attica, to the late Lester and Gladys (Moyer) Waire. She married Anthony “Tony” Mira and they later divorced.
Survivors include a step-son, James (Priscilla) Mira of Bellevue, a niece, Diane (Robert) Reinhart of Fostoria, three nephews, Greg (Ann) Waire of Tiffin, Gary (Tammy) Waire of Gahanna, Robert (Debbie) Waire of Prince George, Virginia.
Bernice worked for 27 years at Sterling Grinding Wheel. She was a member of Tiffin Eagles and Moose Lodge. Bernice attended Tiffin Columbian High School.
Bernice enjoyed her warm winters in Florida with her special friend Robert Hitchcock. She was an avid Ohio State football fan watching every Saturday game and even listening to the 2023 Cotton Bowl game last Friday night. She always looked forward to playing Bingo with her friends at St. Francis home and listening to the live entertainment the activities director provided. She was most appreciative of the glamour girls and beauticians who made her feel beautiful inside and out. If you visited her during the day you could find her doing a word search puzzle and if you stopped in the evening, Wheel of Fortune was on the T.V.
The family would like to thank the friendly and compassionate staff at St. Francis for her care where she called home. They loved her whit and determination as she brought a smile to the people she met. We appreciate the help that Stein Hospice provided in her final days and special thank you to Becky Leopold for being the best friend anyone could ask for.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, very good friend, Robert E. Hitchcock, two nephews, Ronald and Larry Waire, a niece, Lou Ann (Waire) Evans, three brothers, Lester, Donald and Calvin Waire.
Funeral services for Bernice will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin. Visitation for family and friends will also be held on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m., until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services on Saturday, at St. Jacob’s cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Home.
