Betty Jeanne Wertz, 98, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria.
Betty was born July 6, 1926, in Tiffin, to the late Herbert Leo and Hazel Ruth (Neibal) Kirchner. She married Evan W. Wertz at Church of Christ in Tiffin on February 10, 1946 and he preceded her in death on September 16, 2007.
Survivors include her children Georgianna (Dale) Hall and Marybess Hunter both of Tiffin, five grandchildren, Sara, Dan, Rachel, Elliott, Eva, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Betty was a homemaker and managed the cafeteria at Hopewell Loudon School. She was a member of the Union United Church of Christ in Bascom. Betty also stayed busy as a dedicated farm wife and mother. She was recognized as Farm Wife of the year and once had the top sale for Beef Cattle. Betty also drove for the Gang Band, was a part of many local Women’s groups, and still found time to care for her family and home. Betty still planted and maintained some of the most beautiful flowers in the area, and you could often catch her outside mowing or planting even at almost 92 years old.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers and a sister.
Funeral services for Betty will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin. Visitation for family and friends will also be held on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m., until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services on Tuesday, at Sandridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
