Charles Giles, 87, of Tiffin, passed away at 5:40 p.m., on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Tiffin Rehab.
Charlie was born in Johnstown, PA, on July 8, 1933 to the late Joseph and Lenna (Strait) Giles. He married Janeen (Gassner) on October 27, 1956 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Republic and she survives.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janeen of Tiffin, children, Charles R. Giles of Kansas City, Missouri, Connie (Dennis) Rumschlag of New Vienna, OH, Theresa (Pat) McClintock of Tiffin, Michael (Terri) Giles of Norfolk, VA, Thomas (Angela) Giles of Tiffin, Catherine (Greg) Lupton of Mason, OH, twelve grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Charlie worked for 30 years at Basic Refractories and later retired from Findlay Whirlpool after 10 years. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. He was also a member of the Tiffin AmVets, VFW and the Untied Veterans Council where he was just named the 2020 Veteran of the Year. Charlie was also a United States Army Veteran serving during Korea.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and five sisters.
A graveside service for Charlie will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the St. Joseph Catholic cemetery with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Military rites will be rendered by the United Veterans Council. Masks and social distancing will be required by all attending the services.
