Charles Schank Obituary

Charles (Chuck, Charlie) Edward Schank, age 71 years and 7 months, passed away at his home in Bellevue, Ohio, on August 21, 2024.

Charlie grew up on a farm in Republic, Ohio, and was the third of six children. He attended Scipio-Republic school where he was active in class leadership, played a baritone in band, and was in the chorus. He was in the first graduating class for Seneca East in Attica, Ohio, in 1971.

Charlie attended, and graduated from, Bowling Green State University, with a degree in Education with an emphasis in Social Studies. He received his Master's Degree in Administration. Charlie began his teaching career in Tiffin, Ohio, and was a teacher, assistant principal, and principal, in other schools in Ohio, West Virginia, and Tennessee. He also was a substitute teacher in local Ohio schools before he retired.

Charlie loved the Cleveland Browns, the Guardians, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He attended Browns and Guardians games on occasion, but most often, he enjoyed watching the games with friends and neighbors. Charlie was also an avid reader of mystery novels, and he spent many hours at the local library after his retirement. Charlie was friendly and always had a smile for everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him.

Charlie is survived by siblings, Marcia A (Schank) Tuzzolino, Alta Loma, CA, David M Schank, Republic, OH, Patricia M (Schank) Morgan, Newtown Square, PA, Martin F Schank, Republic, OH, Sandra K (Schank) Kessler, Bloomville, OH, brothers-in-law, Martin Tuzzolino and Scott Kessler, sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Sharpe) Schank, David Schank's partner, Kathy (Smith) Stout, nieces and nephews, Kelly (Schank) Prevost, Philip Missig, Kory Schank, Susan Green, Samantha Kessler, Jeremy Kessler, Jenny (Kessler) Kent, Jessica (Kessler) Wagler, Brian Skeel, and Matthew Skeel and several great nieces and nephews.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence F Schank and Janice E (Michael) Schank, Sister-in-law, Paulette (Ohler) Schank, and Nephew, Kyle Schank, all from Republic, OH.  

A private burial service will be held by the family. There will be a Celebration of Life for Charlie on November 16, 2024.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
