David J. DeRan, 77, of Fremont, passed away at 10:31 a.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at his residence.
David was born February 5, 1946, in Fremont, to the late Herbert G. and Eula (Baugher) DeRan. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Linda Jean (Sanford) DeRan for over 57 years.
Survivors include his wife Linda, three daughters, Dawn Renee DeRan of Dublin, Michelle Marlene Saltzman of Van Buren and Melissa Lin (Lisa Hardej-DeRan) DeRan of Brunswick, Maine, nine grandchildren, David Joseph Darr, Leah Michelle (Darr) Rochester, Dominique Renee (Darr) Schonhiutt, Tyler Joseph Saltzman, Mackenzie Renee Saltzman, Cassandra Lin Saltzman, Isabelle Jean DeRan, Logan Francis Hardej, James Tyler DeRan, three great-grandchildren, a sister, Cassandra (Ronald) Molyet of Fremont and a sister-in-law, Barbara DeRan of Findlay.
David was a 1964 graduate of Old Fort High School and also attended The Ohio State University. He was a lifetime farmer of DeRan Homestead and served six years with the 204th Transportation Unit with the Army Reserves out of Fremont. David also worked for General Electric of Tiffin for twenty years and was the owner of DeRan Supply for twenty-four years and was a member of the Old Fort Church.
David was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James and Thomas DeRan.
Private family services have taken place at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin. Burial will be held at Pleasant Union cemetery in Old Fort at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the P.M. Gilmor Community Park in Fort Seneca or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
