David Howard Powell, 68, of Republic, passed away January 7, 2022, at Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin, due to complications from Vascular Dementia.
He was born April 28, 1953, in Tiffin, to Leonard H. and Geneivee J. (Yambert) Powell. He married Mary Martin on November 9, 1974, at the Republic United Church of Christ. Mary survives in Republic.
Survivors include two daughters, Niccole (Tom) Avalon of Medina, Natalie (Rob) Siston of Dublin, four grandchildren, Andrew and Elliott Avalon, and Mary Beth and Katie Siston, a sister, Sharon Nedolast of Tiffin, and many nieces and nephews.
David was a 1971 graduate of Seneca East High School. He received his mechanic certification from Vanguard Tech in 1972. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Tiffin, and a former member of Seneca Lodge #790 F&AM and was a past master, and a former member of Cornelia Chapter #93OES.
While Dave worked a long career that included National Machinery, NAPA, and ICP, what mattered most to him was his life outside of work. He was an avid cross-stitcher, winning numerous awards at the Seneca County Fair. He played baritone in the North Coast Concert Band and sang in the community and church choir. He was a Civil War buff and visited numerous battle sites. His favorite memory was playing his baritone at Gettysburg National Cemetery. He loved to travel and visited almost every state in the United States by van. He loved the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians, NASCAR, and John Deere tractors. He was an ardent supporter of veterans, and ensured all had a proper flag at their gravesite. He was a constant “tinkerer”, lawn mower, wood maker, photographer and hat collector. He loved animals and provided a home to many shelter dogs during his lifetime. He was very active in his community and church, and local school activities. He never missed one of his daughters' marching band shows, volleyball games or musical performances.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 11, 2022, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, on 10 Main Street in Tiffin, with Rev. Audra Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Farewell Retreat Cemetery in Republic.
