Dennis Brown Obituary

Dennis A. “Butch” Brown, 72, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 in the emergency room at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital.

Butch was born July 30, 1950, in Bellevue, to the late Marjorie (Hepperly) Varnes. He married Becky (Putnam) on April 22, 1972 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Frenchtown.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Brown of Tiffin, son, Ryan (Holly) Brown of Tiffin, daughter, Kim (Jose) Esnard of Tiffin, six grandchildren, Gavin and Madalyn Jordan, Noah Brown, Gabriel, Roman and Sydney Esnard all of Tiffin, two sisters, Barb (Gene Metheny) Hendrix of Randolph, OH and Lindy (Jeff) Hoover of Republic.

Butch worked as the Manager for Ohio Department of Job & Family Services in Seneca County for 30 years before retiring. He also worked at General Electric for over 15 years. During his working years, Butch was very involved with many community clubs, civic organizations and boards. Butch and Becky enjoyed their corvettes and being involved with the Flag City Corvette Club in Findlay and Car Guys & Gals Club in Tiffin. After retirement Butch and Becky were very active with the Allen Eiry Center, where they took great pleasure working with stained glass and traveling with other members. Butch really enjoyed car shows, fishing with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events and watching Ohio State and all Cleveland Sport Teams.

Butch was a 1968 Thompson High School graduate and a 1971 Terra Community College graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Butch was a born leader, who always was taking charge and getting things done.

Butch was preceded in death by his mother, step-father, Donald Varnes and a sister, Dianne (Tom) Wilhelm of Green Springs.

There will be a Celebration of Butch’s Life held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 4-7 p.m., at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin. Burial will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Allen Eiry Center or to the Seneca County Humane Society.
