Donald Wellman Obituary

Donald William Wellman, 88, passed away April 13, 2025 at home with his family by his bedside.  Don was born to William E. and Corinne (Streng) Wellman April 10, 1937 in Tiffin, OH.  He married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Montz on August 31, 1957 and shared 67 years of creating wonderful memories with their daughters.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Tiffin; daughters Terri Hampshire of Tiffin, Denise (Paul) Heilman of Findlay and Annette (Stephen) Comer of Big Rapids, MI; eight grandchildren, Nicholas (Angie) Feindel and David Feindel of Tiffin, Emily (Sterling) Helms of Findlay, Drew Heilman of Albany, Georgia; Bryce Comer of New Iberia, Louisiana, Logan Comer of Seguin, Texas, Adam (Melissa) Comer of Hudsonville, Michigan and Garrett Comer of Gainesville, Florida; four great-grandchildren, Kallie Comer, Madison Feindel, Declan and Adalynn Comer.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Corinne Wellman, daughter Dawne and son-in-law Tom P. Hampshire.

Don graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1955 and attended Ohio State University until 1957 before he started working at National Machinery.  He retired from National Machinery after working there 43.5 years in the Engineering Development Department.  Don was a member of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club and lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ.

Don enjoyed traveling with Carolyn and the girls.  He traveled as far south as Key West, Florida and as far north as Barrow, Alaska, as far west as Tucson, Arizona and as far east as Prince Edward Island, Canada. He managed to visit 46 of the 50 states.  His most treasured trip was the 6-week trip to Alaska in 1974 that he planned (without the help of the internet).   He also traveled for National Machinery all over the eastern half of the United States, Canada, Europe and South America.

The family would like to express special thanks to Michelle, Shanna and Kristi along with all of Don’s wonderful caregivers at Bridge Hospice.

Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with arrangements.  Don’s wishes were that there be no visitation or memorial service. Memorials can be made in Don’s memory to Bridge Home and Health Hospice of Findlay, OH.
