Elbert B. “Dutch” Edeburn, 96, of Bloomville, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at his residence.
Dutch was born December 8, 1929 in Fort Shafter, HI, to the late Kenneth Burdett and Marguerite (Hori) Edeburn. He married Martha E. (Blaser) in Bloomville, on August 9, 1953 and she preceded him in death on October 7, 2004. He later married LouAnn (Newlove) in Bloomville on August 22, 2009 and she survives in Bloomville.
Dutch lived the life of a military kid. Most of his time was spent in Hawaii. Because of his father’s role in the U.S. Army, Dutch was living with his family at Fort Kamehameha when Pearl Harbor was attacked, and like all Americans that day, his life would be forever changed. After surviving the attack, Dutch’s father was stationed overseas, and the rest of the Edeburn family relocated to Bloomville, OH, for the remainder of the war. Here, Dutch and his sister, Vernell, attended school in Bloomville where Dutch completed grades 7-10, excelling in academics and sports. Once the war ended, the entire family returned to Hawaii where Dutch completed his high school career at Schofield Barracks. Here, his performance in the classroom and on the athletic fields earned him a spot at Colorado State College in Greeley, CO, and eventually, Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. To help support himself, he worked in the oil fields as well. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed at Cherry Point, NC. On a trip home to Bloomville, he met and fell in love with Martha Blaser. They were married on August 9, 1953. They were blessed with four children and over fifty years of marriage. After Martha passed away in 2004, Dutch was fortunate to find love again with Lou Ann Newlove. Together, they enjoyed sixteen years of marriage.
Dutch enjoyed his work as the Financial Aid Director at Heidelberg College until retiring in 1992. He was a member of Bloomville United Church of Christ where he served on the consistory. As an active member of the community, Dutch also served on the village council, the local school board, and the library board. He was also a Mason, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Clinton Heights Golf Course. Dutch loved sports of all kinds, playing golf, coaching, and watching his grandchildren participate in sports and activities.
Survivors include his children, Gail (Steve) Finn of Sandusky, Joy (Joe) Gallo of Columbus, Nancy (Randy) Frankart of Bloomville, and Mark (Ellen) Edeburn of Burton, OH; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Vernell Williams; and many cousins living in Hawaii. He is also survived by his wife, Lou Ann, and her family, Doug (Paula) Newlove, Heather (Mike) Weinandy, Sara (Van) Brandt, Mike (Lindsay) Newlove, and their families.
Dutch was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha, and his great-granddaughter, Ava.
Funeral services for Dutch will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Bloomville United Church of Christ with Rev. Tom Kagy officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., on Monday, May 18 at Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville. Burial will follow the services on Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery.
