Ernestine L. Yoakum, 89, of Fremont and formerly of Bettsville, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her children.
Ernestine was born August 11, 1934, in Bettsville, to the late Mervin and Florence (Rosenberger) Harrison.
Survivors include her children, Charlotte (Tim) Leichty of Findlay, Kenneth (Barbara) Yoakum of Spring City, TN and Christine Holman of NC, Denis (Kimberly) Yoakum of Kansas, Charity Yoakum of Tiffin, nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Ernestine retired from Style Crest in Fremont and worked as a hairdresser for many years. She was a member of the Nazarene Church in Tiffin where she played the organ for many years. She was an avid sports fan of all sports and racing. Ernestine attended Bettsville High School and was known to her grandchildren as “grandma macaroni.”
Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Gary Yoakum, three brothers, Eugene, Darl and Evan Harrison, a sister, Margaret Harrison, a grandson, Zachary Lanning and a son-in-law, Michael Holman.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3-6 p.m., on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Engle-Shook Funeral Home in Bettsville. Burial will be held at Pleasant Union cemetery in Old Fort at a later date.
