Eugene Mason Obituary

Eugene D. Mason, 92 of Tiffin, passed away Sunday morning January 3, 2021, at St. Francis Home in Tiffin.

Gene was born September 18, 1928 in Republic, to Jennings and Letha (Moyer) Mason. He married Reva L. Dawson on February 9, 1947 in Adams Twp., Seneca County, and they enjoyed 73 years together.

Gene is survived by his wife Reva and she survives in Tiffin. Other survivors include three sons, Ron (Kellie) Mason of Detroit, Michigan, Gary (Pam) Mason of Tiffin, and Dan (Ollietta) Mason of Tiffin,12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, his 2 brothers, Doyle Mason of Sandusky, and Dwight Mason of Republic.

Gene was preceded in death by sister-in-laws, Irene and Betty Mason, and a granddaughter, Sharon Mason,

Gene enjoyed many things in life, dancing, bingo, mushroom hunting, squirrel hunting, playing cards (Card Club for 40 years), traveling, Hawaii twice, and most of the lower US, taking cruises and fishing in Canada and Michigan with friends and family. Boating was his true passion and spending most weekends at Lake Erie with friends on their boat and in their trailer home.

Gene was a 1947 graduate of Republic-Scipio High School. He worked for a short time at Clyde Cutlery and then ended his career at National Machinery as a milling machine operator, retiring in 1992 after 33 years.

Gene was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Republic. He loved serving Easter sunrise breakfast, and being a greeter. His other memberships included the Moose, Eagles, and VFW. Gene was a kind, and gentle man who never used foul language and will be missed.

Gene’s family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at St. Francis Home for taking good care of Gene’s every need. Your compassion and care were deeply appreciated.

A private family burial will held in St. Jacob’s Cemetery Republic. Due to the current pandemic, there will be no funeral home visitation. A celebration of Gene’s life will be postponed until a time when the family can gather safely.

 

Memorial contribution may be made to Stein Hospice. The Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR. 19 Bloomville, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
