George J. “Sugar Bear” Houck, 84, of Tiffin, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024 at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital.
Sugar Bear was born on December 15, 1939 in Norwalk to the late George F. and Rosella K. (Blum) Houck. He married Rosemary (Fraley) at St. Joseph Catholic Church on December 27, 1979 and she preceded him in death on February 4, 2019.
Survivors include his brothers, Ronald Houck of Tiffin and Paul (Greta) Houck both of Tiffin, two sisters, Mary (Tom) Younkin of Fostoria and Marjorie Kimmet of Toledo.
Sugar Bear retired from Honeywell in Fostoria. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a 1957 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School and a United States Navy Veteran serving during Vietnam. Sugar Bear always remembered playing in the last Calvert and Columbian football game.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, February 9, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony Coci officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to the Mass at church. Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, from 10:00-11:30 a.m., at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Tiffin Calvert High School.
