Hazel Ruth Ferguson

Hazel Ruth Ferguson, 84, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital.

Hazel was born July 18, 1941, on the 7th Street Mississippi Levee in Cairo, IL to the late Arlin and Frances (Hickerson) Ellis.

Survivors include her life partner, Karl “Woody” Guilkey of Tiffin, children: Pennie Atkins, Timothy Resor both of Jackson, MI, Tami (Joe) Bell, Terry (Bryan Carson) Ferguson both of Tiffin, John Platte of Westphalia, MI, Teresa (Tony Carter) Ferguson of Tiffin, Trampas Ferguson of Cleveland, twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and a brother, Mickey L. Ellis of TX.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Debra Tompkins, a son, Thomas Resor, a son-in-law, Doug Atkins, a brother, Alton “Buddy” Ellis, grand-daughters, Tessa Lundy, Carissa Carter, Katelynn Carson and a step-son, Reuben Guilkey,

Hazel worked as a caregiver at the County Home in Tiffin and at Tiffin Development Center. She also worked at Rock Creek Cafe at Heidelberg for many years after her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends, gardening, cooking and hosting family cookouts, the great times she shared with friends at the Bel-Mar and most of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hazel always took pride in knowing that she helped raise her great-granddaughter, Rae-Ann Cornett.

There will be a Celebration of Hazel’s life on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at the VFW in Tiffin from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with their arrangements.

Memorial contributions made to the family go towards Hazel‘s final arrangements and the Shriners Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
