Herbert E. “Gene” McClellan, 91, of Tiffin and a former Bloomville resident, passed away Friday evening, September, 10, 2021, at The Willows at Tiffin.
Gene was born July 7, 1930, in Tiffin, to the late H. W. and Cleora (Valentine) McClellan. He married Joyce L. Baltzell in Tiffin, on February 11, 1954 and she survives in Tiffin.
Survivors include his children, Michael (Lisa) McClellan of Tiffin, Sharon (William) Lutz of Bloomville, five grandchildren, Adam (Amanda) Lutz of Bloomville, Sara (Rob) Hradek of Tiffin, Justin (Amy) Lutz of Tiffin, McKenna Gaietto of California, Clairese McClellan of Tiffin, eight great-grandchildren, Adalyn Lutz, Will Lutz, Zoe Lutz, Lennon Hradek, Ivy Lutz, Georgia Hradek, Stryker Lutz and GiGi Lutz.
Gene worked as a conductor for CSX Railroad for many years, retiring in 1993. He was a 1947 graduate of Risingsun High School, a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tiffin, a member of Seneca Lodge #790 Republic, a former member of the Tiffin VFW, a United States Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict and a former Bloomville grade school volunteer reader. Gene was an avid gardener, woodchuck hunter and most important a good father, but a great, grandfather.
A memorial service for Gene will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Bloomville United Church of Christ, with Pastor Tom Kagy officiating. Private family burial will be at Woodlawn cemetery in Bloomville, with Military Rites being rendered by the United Veterans Council.
Memorial contributions may be to the First Presbyterian Church, or to Heartland Hospice.
