Janet G. Swartzmiller, 86, a woman of steadfast faith, who was born in Willard and spent most of her life in the Attica area, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Thursday morning, April 11, 2024. She passed peacefully, at The Willows in Willard.
Janet known as Grandma J was born in Willard, on April 2, 1938 to the late George O. and Violet I. (Miller) Gurney. Family, faith, church, bible study, reading, sewing and music consumed her life. Many friends, family and charities were blessed to receive one of her over 200 quilts made lovingly for them.
Survivors include her four sons, Greg (Diane) Swartzmiller of Attica, Curt (Debra) Swartzmiller of Attica, Dan (Sandra) Swartzmiller of Willard, Steve (Donna) Swartzmiller of Batavia, IL, a daughter, Brenda (Gene) Gregor of Attica. She was blessed with nineteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson and a brother, Gary Gurney of Attica.
Janet retired from RR Donnelley, shipping department in Willard after 32 years. She was an active member of Union Pisgah Church in Attica where she played the piano and organ for decades. She felt fortunate to be able to travel the many places of the world that she experienced. Janet enjoyed school and was a proud 1955 graduate of Attica High School.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Billy, and a brother, Dennis Gurney, two sisters-in-laws, Judi Gurney and Jane Gurney and a great-granddaughter, Alexis.
A Celebration of Life Service, for Janet will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Union Pisgah, 7880 S. Co. Rd. 35 in Attica. The family will receive friends also on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m., until 12:30 p.m., at Union Pisgah. Burial will be held at Greenwood cemetery in Willard at a later date. The Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville is assisting the family with their arrangements.
