Jean Ellen Hamilton

Jean Ellen Hamilton, 95, passed away August 26, 2025, in Huron, Ohio. She was born in Attica, Ohio, December 12, 1929, the daughter, of John L. and Mardell E (Hershiser) Wilkinson.

Jean graduated from Attica High School in 1949 and White Cross Hospital College of Nursing in 1950. As a registered nurse she worked in Columbus, Willard Area Hospital, the local doctor’s office, Dr. Robert Cahill and later at the local dentist’s office for Dr. Dallas Cahill, both in Attica.

September 1952 she married Chester L. (Pete) Gillett in Attica at the Attica United Methodist Church. She was a long-time resident of Attica. After the passing of Pete in 1977, she married Ronald L. Hamilton, who was also originally from Attica but resided in Wauseon during his career and many years with his first wife Gertrude Wolf until her passing. Ronald passed away in 2023.

Jean enjoyed many summers at their Lake Erie cottage adjacent to Camp Perry hosting friends and family. She also “pampered” her grandchildren with burned grilled cheese sandwiches, but only on one side.

Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church in Huron after she and Ron moved to Huron. Jean was also a member of the White Cross School of Nursing Alumni Association, the Tiffin Order of Eastern Stars, and Ladies Shriners.

She is survived by her son, Eric (Denise) Gillett, daughter, Karen Kishman, step-daughter, Susan (John) Davis and step-son, John (Pam) Hamilton,  six grandchildren, Kyle (Sally) Gillett, Morgan (Lori) Gillett, Allison Kishman, Kristin (Mark) Clayman, Tom Davis, Kaitlyn (Ian) Stark  and four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Samantha, Kasey and Austin.

Jean was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Phillip Kishman, brother, Robert Wilkinson, and parents, John and Mardell Wilkinson.

Funeral services for Jean will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 29, 2025 at Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville with Pastor Letty Damian of the Attica Community Church officiating. Visitation for friends and family will also be held on Friday, from 9:30 a.m., until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services on Friday, at Attica Venice cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Legion Post 260, maintenance fund for Veterans Park located in Attica.
