John Christensen Obituary

John Peter “Pete” Christensen 55, of Sarasota FL., passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 in Sarasota FL. He was born on May 17, 1968 to Dr. Charles and Nancy (Clouse) Christensen at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. Pete never met a stranger and he loved his 1963 Corvette and his dog Keva who preceded him in death.

Peter graduated from Northmont High School in Englewood, OH and Wright State University in Dayton, OH with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Sociology. He was the Safety Director for several large construction companies nationwide including Midwest Steel during the building of the Southern Illinois University Sports Arena in Carbondale IL. The Beck Group in Tampa, FL. during the building of University of Tampa Resident Hall 7, and the Idlewild Baptist Mega Church in Tampa, FL; Batson & Cook of Tampa, Inc. during the building of the Twin Towers of Channelside in Tampa; and worked as Safety Director for the Army Corp of Engineers during the Lido Beach, FL shoreline reconstruction. Pete was also one of the original OSHA certified safety instructors for Ohio and Florida.

Pete is survived by his parents, his twin brother, Jason Christensen of Sarasota, FL, brother, Andrew (Angela) Christensen of Put-in-Bay, OH, nieces and nephews, Olivia and Drew Christensen of Put-in-Bay, OH and Sydney, Gianna, and Brandon Christensen of Sarasota, FL, and long-time friend and companion, Dr. Surichya Surattanont and her daughter, Supawadee, of Sarasota, FL. He is also survived by Uncle Tom (Debbie) Clouse and Aunt Anne Clouse of Tiffin and numerous cousins.

Peter was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Albert J. and Jane (Fingerhuth) Clouse and paternal grandparents, Ralph and Marion (Lewis) Christensen.

There will be a celebration of Peter’s life held from 3-6 p.m., on Monday, July 31, 2023 at Carmies Restaurant in Tiffin. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home in Tiffin is assisting the family with their arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, friends can make memorial contributions in Peter’s honor to the Humane Society of Sarasota, 2331 15th St., Sarasota, FL 34237 or the Humane Society of Seneca County.
