John J. Kosta Sr., 93, of Burgoon, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2026 at St. Francis Home in Tiffin.
John was born January 23, 1933, in Fremont, to the late Joseph and Edna (Poitkia) Kosta. He married Shirley Ann (Hartsel) Kosta on May 4, 1957 by the Justice of the Peace and later renewed their vows. Shirley survives in Burgoon.
Other survivors include his children; John (Diana) Kosta Jr., of Republic, and Teresa Hoschar of Bascom, grandchildren; Tiffanie, Kendra, Taylor, Ben, and great-grandchildren; Lilah, Amelia, Ali, Jackson, and Tommie.
John was farmer throughout his life and owned two restaurants with his wife, Shirley; The Pie House in Bettsville and Kosta’s Kitchen in Fostoria. He was also a member of Burgoon Church of Christ, The American Legion in Bettsville, and the VFW in Fremont.
John was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean War. He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Machek, hunting, fishing, collecting toys, and restoring pedal tractors. John also went on numerous hunting and fishing trips with his son, John.
John was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Lorretta, brothers; Walter Kosta, Michael Kosta, and Raymond Kosta, and sisters; Josephine Stacoviak, Mary Cleary, Lucille Young, and Stella Crawley.
Funeral services for John will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Engle-Shook Funeral Home in Bettsville. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will also take place on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Pleasant Union Cemetery in Old Fort.
