John E. Michaels, 75, of Kansas, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024 at his residence after a seven year battle with cancer.
John was born on April 3, 1949, in Kansas to the late Loyel and Garnet Malone (Lilley) Michaels. He married Virginia Kay (Fish) in Tiffin, on May 27, 1967.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Michaels of Kansas, a son, Donald A. (Angela) Michaels of Burgoon, a daughter, Valerie K. (Andy) Meinke of Curtice, a sister, Nancy Manner of Fremont, five grandchildren, Taylor and Levi Gerner, Joshua and Caleb Meinke and Natalie Michaels, three great-grandchildren, Alliyah, Kaisser and Paislee Gerner and one more due in July.
John was born and died in the family farm home where he was a lifelong farmer. He was a 1967 graduate of Lakota High School and an avid outdoors man and just loved spending time with his grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Emmet and Richard Michaels and a sister, Lola Gangwer.
There will be private family visitation and services held at Engle-Shook Funeral Home in Bettsville. There will also be a private family burial held at Kansas cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or to Kansas Fire Department.
