Kenneth Edwin Davison, 97, passed away April 14th, 2022, at The Willows senior care center in Tiffin, Ohio.
Kenneth was born May 4, 1924 in East Cleveland, Ohio to Gordon Edwin Davison and Mildred Katherine (Smith) Davison.
Kenneth was raised in Garfield Heights, Ohio during the lean times of the depression. He excelled at academics and loved history, eventually earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Heidelberg College in 1946, and Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Western Reserve University in 1951 and 1953. He taught at Heidelberg University from 1952-1989, serving as the Chair of the American Studies Department from 1967-1989.
During his career, Dr. Davison served as the treasurer of both the Ohio-Indiana American Studies Association and the national American Studies Association. He was also involved in the National American Studies Faculty, a group charged with evaluating American Studies programs.
Dr. Davison wrote numerous articles and books on Ohio history including a book in 1972 entitled "The Presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes" and co-authored an Ohio history textbook, "Ohio's Heritage", in 1984. He was the recipient of numerous professional awards, and also served the local community through his involvement and leadership within various history and civic groups.
A celebration of life ceremony for Ken and Virginia will be held June 4, 2022 at Heidelberg University. Visitation will begin at 2pm at Herbster Chapel in Pfleiderer Center followed by the celebration of life service at 3pm. A reception with light refreshments will be held afterwards at the student center next to the chapel. Parking is available in Lot F on Rebecca St. Handicap Parking is available between Campus Center and Pfleiderer Center. Both buildings are accessible.
