On May 16th, 2023 Loretta J Platt (better known as Ettie) passed on to her maker.
She was born on December 19th, 1931 to Robert and Lucille (Presler) Smith. She is survived by her five sons Paul, Jr. (Ruth) of Punta Gorda, Florida, Raymond (Ruthie) of Kingston, Ohio, David of Tiffin, Ohio, Daniel (Terry) of Deatsville, Alabama, and Larry (Camilla) of Tiffin, Ohio.
She loved being a grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a brother Edward Smith of Sycamore, Ohio and a sister, Betty Kelber of Tiffin, Ohio. In addition, she is survived by four half siblings Chuck, Robert, John, and Angel Smith.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Paul, Sr., a granddaughter, April Ray, and an adopted daughter, Zola.
She was a working Mother with several jobs that included managing the Tiffin Glass Store for several years, working at Cook's Food Center, and Ballreich’s Potato Chip factory. But her most important job was being a mother to five rambunctious boys and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ettie, a name she preferred, had many hobbies and interests that included sewing doll clothes, making dolls, bowling, collecting Angels, and working on crossword puzzles. However, her favorite hobby was shopping at garage sales and Goodwill stores.
Her favorite recreation was playing euchre with friends and telling funny stories. She could be quick tempered, but she was also quick to forgive. She gave her boys a house full of laughter and love.
Visitation for Ettie will be held at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 10a.m. until time of service at 11a.m. Burial will follow at Seneca Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Autumnwood Care Center Activities Department.
