Lynette Mellott Obituary

Lynette Leonore (Hoover) Mellott of Perrysburg, and formerly of Old Fort, peacefully entered her eternal home on Monday, September 23, 2024.

Lynette was born to John III and Kathryn (Steffani) Hoover in Fostoria, Ohio on August 16, 1939. The family would soon move to Old Fort, where she would spend the majority of her life. Lynette fell in love at an early age and married her high school sweetheart, Marion (Pete) Mellott on May 26, 1957 in Old Fort. Together they enjoyed over 59 years of marriage and raised an incredible family all while showing unending support and service to their community in a variety of ways and means.

Lynette is survived by her immediate family, which includes her children; Craig Mellott of Old Fort; Mark (Denise) Mellott of Albuquerque, NM; Missy (Len) Kinor of Perrysburg; and Curt (Melissa) Mellott of Tiffin; her brother, John IV (Kristine) Hoover, Spokane, WA; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith of Tiffin. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, Nathanial (Heather) Mellott of Wayne; Nick (Erin) Mellott of Old Fort; Matthew (Dawn) Mellott of Tiffin; Caley Mellott of Phoenix, AZ; Mason Mellott of Oahu,HI; Allison (Allen) Reigelmyer of Maineville, OH; Adrienne Kinor of New York City, NY: and Carson, Mattie, and Maizie Mellott of Tiffin. Lynette is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Codie, Logan, Colt, Gage, Javier, Lilly, Kennedy and Natalie.

Lynette was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, an infant son, Rodney Gene, her parents, John and Kathryn, daughter-in-law, Chelly, along with numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends and acquaintances throughout the years.

Lynette will long be remembered for her loving and giving heart which showed tremendous generosity and support throughout her entire life to her faith, family, friends, and community. Whatever the calling, Lynette always responded regardless of the situation. Throughout her life she was heavily involved in her community, church, and the Old Fort School. A phenomenal cook you never left her house hungry or wanting anything else. She loved to garden, bird watch, attend her children’s or grandchildren’s games and events, and prepare for the holiday and family gatherings.

Lynette’s greatest joys included being able to spend time with her family, digging into her faith, and being a friend to anyone in need. Lynette’s faith was a driving force in her life and she proudly would lean into it during her most trying and difficult times. Her example and resolve were exemplary and served to guide her children and grandchildren into a life abundant in the word of the Lord.

The past three years Lynette lived at Waterford in Perrysburg where her undeniable traits of service continued. She would tend flowers, go on trips with fellow residents, and often cash in big time during nickel bingo nights. She continued her love of feeding people by baking cream puffs and cookies for her fellow residents and sharing her purchases of Gillmor’s corn with all her friends. She was a fixture at all Waterford events and activities continually.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Waterford at Levis Commons in Perrysburg for their compassionate and excellent care, as well as Heartland Hospice.

Per Lynette’s request, there will be no funeral services. Rather, a small Celebration of Life will take place for Waterford residents, friends, and family members at a later date. A private burial will follow thereafter at Pleasant Union Cemetery in Old Fort. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with their arrangements.
