Margaret Anna (Molnar) Armstrong

Margaret “Margie” (Molnar) Armstrong, 92, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, at The Willows in Bellevue, Ohio, surrounded by the love of her adoring family both near and far. She lived a wonderful and full life, defined by the utmost kindness, grace and warmth that filled the hearts of those who knew her. Margie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Robert “Bob” Armstrong, and son Bob Armstrong (Kathy); survived by daughter Karen Heilman, son Chris Armstrong (Cheryl); eight grandchildren: Ashley Neeley (Scott), Andy Heilman (Melissa), Andrea Heilman, Sam Armstrong, Steve Armstrong (Logan), Crystal Lea, Nathan Armstrong (Kayla), and Kaelyn Van Camp (John); several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, who all treasured her.

Born on March 10, 1934, on the east side of Toledo, Ohio, in “Hunky Town,” Margie was the youngest of seven children born to William and Mary (Szabo) Molnar. Her parents immigrated separately from Hungary in the early 1900s, where her mother was said to have arrived in America as a stowaway on a refugee boat. A graduate of Waite High School Class of 1952, Margie was the last surviving sibling of her close-knit family, including brothers Bill (Norma), Ernie (Barbara), Joe (Rosa), and Andy (Ruthie) Molnar, and sisters Irene Jankowski (Joe) and Helen Schwab (Delbert). Being the youngest, she was raised by her sisters and lovingly spoiled by her brothers. They enjoyed memorable trips together to Gem Beach and East Harbor. Family lore has it that little Margie even accompanied her brothers while they frequented Tony Packos in the late 1930s, allowing her to crawl around the bar while they enjoyed cold beverages and good Hunky food.

In 1954, Margie married her neighborhood sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Armstrong. The newlyweds were stationed for a few years in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where Bob served in the US Army Corps during the Korean War.  In the late 1950s, they settled in Northwood, Ohio, to raise their three children. They lived in several towns across Northwest Ohio throughout their lives. Many memories were made through big family gatherings for the holidays and traditional Hungarian Sütni Szalonna celebrations. Their favorite place to rendezvous was Pearson Park in Oregon, Ohio.

Throughout her life, Margie held various jobs, including positions at Lasalle’s, Trusdell’s, Sun Oil Refinery, and ProMedica. However, nothing gave her more joy than taking care of her family and cooking the very best traditional Hungarian dishes for them. Many of her cherished recipes were lovingly passed down from her mother and St. Stephen’s Church Cookbook (Historic Birmingham) where most of her family belonged.  

Margie had a heart of gold and touched many lives throughout her lifetime, making friends wherever she went.  Shopping was her favorite past time, outlasting everyone who shopped with her.  She loved home decorating, painting, crafting, enjoying a bloody Mary and hosting many family parties and gatherings in her lifetime. She received her energy through her family and friends, especially her grandkids. 

There will be no services held for Margie at this time. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with arrangements. In honor of Margie’s memory, donations can be made to The Willows at Bellevue, which provided exceptional care for her during her final years.
