Marilyn Rose Fries, 92, of Republic, passed away Friday afternoon, January 27, 2023, at her home in Republic.
Marilyn was born March 9, 1930 in Tiffin, to Verne and Velma (Armstrong) Routzahn. She was a 1948 graduate of Scipio-Republic High School and is one of the few surviving classmates. She married Robert P. Fries on August 23, 1952 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin and he preceded her in death in 2011.
Survivors include four sons, James Fries, Thomas (Kathy) Fries, Michael Fries, all of Republic, David (Lita Smith) Fries of Tiffin, three daughters, Debra (Glenn Studer) and Lori (Roger) Chaffee, both of Republic and Julie (Michael) Reinhart of Fremont, a sister, Ruth Ann (Charles) Beck of Tiffin, two brothers, Robert (Sandy) Routzahn of Bucyrus and Mark (Diane) Routzahn of Tiffin, a sister in-law, Kay Miller of Republic, three former daughter in-laws, Marquita Smith, Tammy Fries, Cindy Warher and one son-in-law, Matt Gottfried, nineteen grandchildren, Amanda (Phil) Dick, Ben (Amy) Fries, Adam Fries, Sasha Fries, Lisa Howard, Brett(Me Me) Gottfried, Angie (Sam) Farmer, Vincent (Katy) Fries, Stephanie (Jeremy) Thiess, Madelyn (Mike) Yacavino, Melissa Crocker, Jacqueline (Chandra) Fries-Gomez, Steven (Marissa ) Fries, Ashley (Jeff )Fries, Nicole (Ben) Clapp, Seth (Nickie) Chaffee, William (MacKayla) Reinhart, Brandon Reinhart, Garett Reinhart (Hunter) and thirty-four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Carlton “Genie” Routzahn, a sister-in-law, Marilyn Routzahn, and brother-in-law, Edgar Miller.
Marilyn was a hard working farm wife and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved family vacations, camping, and holidays were a joyous time. She enjoyed gardening, and she was an excellent cook, her home baked pies, baked apples, and pineapple-graham cracker dessert, “her own recipe” was family favorites. She enjoyed wintering in La Feria, Texas, for many years, and enjoyed her family visits, treating them to many local attractions, and across the border into Mexico. She loved genealogy and researching her family history. Marilyn was a pet lover, and will be missed by her furry companion “Gizmo” and Smokey.
It was Marilyn's request the funeral services are private family services only. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Tiffin. The Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville is assisting the family with their arrangements.
