Mark Hartsel Obituary

Mark A. Hartsel, 65, of Tiffin, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024 surrounded by his family at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

Mark was born on January 2, 1959 in Fostoria to the late Guy Johnson and Betty (Hiser) Hartsel. He was raised by John Hartsel, who adopted him at the age of two years old following the marriage of his mother to John.

Survivors include his pride and joy, his three children, Lindsay (Josh) Winkler of Lima, Lucas (Madison Volschow) Hartsel of Tiffin, and Lauren  (Adam) Benedict of North Baltimore; six grandchildren, Hayden and  Haylee Winkler, Avery, Andrew and Brooks Alan (aka Biggie) Benedict, and Colt Lee Liskai; two sisters Marla (Tim) Peiffer and Marty (Steve) Huffman, both of Tiffin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mark worked as a truck driver for most of his career and retired in 2013. Mark was a 1977 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and was a proud United States Army Veteran. Mark enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He loved fast cars, fishing and boating on Lake Erie and watching his special grand dog, Bella. You could either find Mark at the lake or at his son’s shop, where he spent a lot of time after retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Johnson and Betty & John Hartsel, and a brother, Toby Johnson.
