Mark Rathburn Obituary

Mark A. Rathburn, 44, of Tiffin, passed away at Mercy Hospital Willard on April 22, 2022.

Mark was born in Tiffin, on December 4, 1977 to Rex and Theresa (Terri) Rathburn.

The definition of family man, Mark became a Father for the first time with sons, Mason in 2005 and Cooper in 2007. On September 29, 2018, he married the love of his life Julie at Ash Cave, in Hocking Hills State Park.

An avid hobbyist, Mark picked up a new interest or hobby every few months. Some of his hobbies over the years include but are not limited to, SCUBA diving, hunting, fishing, gardening including building his own greenhouse, boating, hunting for antler sheds or morel mushrooms, playing guns of glory on his phone building a kingdom and allies all over the world, smoking meats, stained glass, making coin jewelry, target shooting, suburban goat farming, metal detecting and almost going viral on TikTok.

Mark loved to travel, some favorite trips were to Canada with his brother, Mike to Bear hunt, a honeymoon with Julie spent driving a convertible down the Pacific Coast Highway in California, seeing the Grand Canyon and hiking Zion National Park with his sons.

Mark has worked for both Laborers Union and the Operators Union Local #18 since 1997 working for Miller Brothers Construction Company Environmental Division.
No matter how far away the various job site was and when it was the standard and practical option to stay in a hotel near the job site, Mark drove home every night, putting in so many more hours and miles, because he could not bear being away from his family.

He loved trips to the Big Dipper for ice cream with his dog Rigby and floating in the hot tub with his Dachshund  Rusty.
Most of his best stories were about his many cousins who were his closest childhood friends and still the people he called and relied on.

The family he loved and worked so hard for include his sons, Mason and Cooper Rathburn, wife Julie, daughters, Jenna and Jorie Fawcett, parents, Terri and Jerry Wise, brother, Mike (Tisha) Rathburn, niece, Taylor (Dann Hagerty) nephews, Spencer, Hunter and Rex, great nephew, Jameson Hagerty, father-in-law, Tom (Deb) Smith, brothers-in-law, Matt (Brandy) Smith, Cory Smith and nephews, Nick, Colin and Evan, aunts, Linda Clouse, Sandy (Lynn) Martien, Debbie Engle and uncle, James (Carol)Benner.

A Jack of all trades, master of quite a few, his kids and wife were amazed at his knowledge and ability to fix or build literally anything and the amount of tools required to do so. He was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need, was always smiling and trying to make someone laugh. His last wish was to give the gift life and chose to be an organ and tissue donor.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Rex Rathburn in 2007 and Mark has longed for the day he could see his Dad again.
