Robert J. Barchus

Robert J. Barchus, 85, of New Riegel, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2020 at 5:03 p.m., at St. Rita's Hospital in Lima.

Robert was born on February 15, 1935, to the late Harold and Eleanor (Rumschlag) Barchus. He married Gertrude (Platzer) in Heidelberg, Germany on March 3, 1956 and she survives in New Riegel.

Robert is survived by his wife, Gertrude of New Riegel, children, Joe (Lorrie) Barchus of Tiffin, Allen (Laura) Barchus of Tiffin, Christine (Danny Danner) Barchus of Sycamore, Ronda (Rick) Gardner of Alvada, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Robert was retired from American Standard after 40 years with the company and was currently working at Bromack Electric since 1992. He was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church in New Riegel, the New Riegel American Legion and Moose and also the Tiffin AmVets. Robert enjoyed golfing and spending time with his children & grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Larry Barchus, two grandsons, Adam and Alex Barchus, a great-granddaughter, Kinsley Hirneise and an infant brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the All Saints Parish in New Riegel with the Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. Visitation for family and friends will also be on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Military rites will be rendered by the New Riegel American Legion at the church on Friday. There will be no burial held at this time. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with their arrangements.
