Robert S. “Bob” Putnam, 101, of Tiffin, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024 at The Willows of Tiffin.

Bob was born November 24, 1922 in Carey to the late Orvil and V. Corinne (Pierce) Putnam. He married Mable (Zender) Kirian on April 19, 1952 and they later divorced.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Brown of Tiffin, two grandchildren, Ryan (Holly) Brown and Kimberly (Jose) Esnard, six great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Roman and Sydney Esnard, Noah Brown, Gavin and Madalyn Jordan all of Tiffin and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Dennis “Butch” Brown, a brother, Harold Putnam, three sisters, Doris Montague, Annabel Binau and Mardell Mullholand.

Bob was a WWII Veteran with the L. Company, 7th Infantry Regiment 3rd Infantry Division from March 1943 until December 1945. He was in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He participated in the invasion of Anzio in southern France and was awarded six battle stars and the Purple Heart with cluster. He retired in 1985 after thirty-seven years at SOHIO (BP) as a transport driver.

For his 100th birthday in November, 2022, Bob was honored at The Willows with a surprise birthday party, which included the Tiffin Mayor, Commissioner, Finance Director, City Director and the United Veterans Council with special honor certificates, medals and gifts, proclaiming it to be “Robert S. Putnam Day!”

Bob always enjoyed sharing his war stories and his collection of WWII books. He loved working in his yard, his golf cart and spending time with family, friends and his dog and cat.

The family would like to thank everyone at The Willows and ProMedica Hospice for the love and excellent care he received!

There will not be any services held at this time and burial will be held at Spring Grove cemetery in Carey, OH. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with their arrangements.
