Robert "Bob" Armstrong Obituary

Robert “Bob” Armstrong passed away in his wife’s loving arms on August 7, 2022 in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Toledo, Ohio. He was 89 years old. Born in Frazeysburg, Ohio on January 5, 1933 to parents Ralph and Mary (Linn) Armstrong, Bob was the last surviving of his siblings, Carl (Florence), Edward (Mary), Charles (Doris), and Margaret (Harold) Stoldt.

A graduate of Clay High School in 1951, Bob was on the National Honor Society, held several records in track and sang in the choir. It was during this time when he met the love of his life, Margaret “Margie” (Molnar) Armstrong, a student at Waite High School. They married in 1954 and were approaching their 68th wedding anniversary this September.

Bob proudly served as an Army Lieutenant during the Korean War. He went into Officer’s Candidate School and was stationed in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Bob was an avid tennis player while on the base, playing in doubles tournaments and became a member of the Westowne Tennis Club later in life.

Bob and Margie settled in Northwood, Ohio in the late 1950's to raise their family. Many memories were made in their house on Wise Street, a place where neighbors and family congregated often. Bob was a salesman who held more than 50 jobs in his lifetime, including starting his own business running peddle cars for kids to enjoy at festivals and private events.

Bob loved to stay active and enjoyed nature, especially bird watching and travelling near and far. But most of all, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. His strong personality, sharp wit and impromptu harmonica performances will forever be remembered by his family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Margie, daughter, Karen Heilman, son, Chris (Cheryl) Armstrong, daughter-in-law, Kathy Armstrong, eight grandchildren, Ashley (Scott) Neeley, Andy (Melissa) Heilman, Andrea Heilman, Sam Armstrong, Steve (Logan) Armstrong, Crystal Armstrong, Nathan Armstrong, Kaelyn (John) Van Camp and several great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by son, Bob Armstrong.

A celebration of life will be announced to family and close friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Pearson Park via the Metroparks Toledo Foundation in Bob’s honor at metroparkstoledofoundation.org.
