Rodney D. Freeman, 89, originally from Lathrop, California, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, October 6, 2025 at Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin, Ohio.
Rodney was born October 16, 1935 in Fresno, California to the late Guy Sr. and Emma Freeman. Rodney was a longtime resident of Manteca and Lathrop, California until 2024, relocating to Tiffin, Ohio with family.
Rodney is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret Lou, brother Guy Freeman, Jr., sister Margaret Shelley and granddaughter Andrea Andres. He is survived by two daughters Vickie (David) Douglas of Commerce, TX and Elizabeth (Michael) Edrington of Tiffin, OH. He is also survived by two grandsons, Greg Munoz and family of Visalia, California and U.S. Army SSG Michael Munoz and family of Ft. Sam Houston, TX. He is also survived by three step-granddaughters, ten great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He also leaves behind his beloved parakeets “Birdie and Bob”, pups Cooper, Jasper and Max and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rodney was a graduate of Franklin High School in Stockton, CA. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps where he served with distinction during the Korean War. Prior to enlisting, he married the love of his life, Margaret Lou Bailey. After returning from the war, the young couple settled down and worked in his family-owned fish market. Later, he worked for Loomis Courier Service until his retirement.
Rodney was an avid San Francisco 49’ers football and San Francisco Giants baseball fan. He loved to go out fishing on his boat with his grandson-in-law, Paul. He enjoyed traveling and finding restaurants that served up fried catfish and shrimp.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Autumnwood Care Center for their compassionate care, patience and willingness to help in Rodney’s final months.
A celebration of Rodney’s life will be held on October 21, 2025 in the Chapel at Autumnwood Care Center, 670 East State Route 18, Tiffin, Ohio from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm. Memorial Donations may be made to the Humane Society of Seneca County. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory of Tiffin, Ohio is assisting the family with their arrangements.
