Russell E. Magers, 85, resident of Attica, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026 at the Willows of Willard. He was born February 23, 1940 in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Ralph J. and Alice V. (Michaels) Magers. On his 23rd birthday, he married Mary Beth (Betsy) Schueler at St. Stephens Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2025.
Survivors include his daughters, Kristen (Buddy) Caudill of Attica, Leslie (Jeff) Thompson of Massillon, son, R. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sisters, Mary Louise (Gene) Philipp, Ruth (Howard) Meisner, Joanne Benner, Nancy (Garold) Owen; brothers, Frank (Dorothy) Magers, Roy (Rosemary) Magers, and Jack Magers; sister-in-law Jane (Bob) Heinrichs, and brother-in-law, Jack Schueler.
Russ was a 1958 graduate of Tiffin Calvert. He was a welder by trade, drove truck for several companies including JW Humbert, and later worked in the maintenance department at Seneca East, where he took great pride in maintaining the athletic complex (and playing practical jokes on the Seneca Huron staff).
An avid sports enthusiast, Russ followed the Buckeyes, Browns, Indians, and Seneca East, and was also a fan of NASCAR. In retirement, he spent many hours on the golf course. His greatest joy, however, was supporting the activities of his children and grandchildren. Russ was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and regularly attended the Sorrowful Mother Shrine.
The family wishes to thank the Willard Willows, Carla, and Sharon for providing exceptional, compassionate care for our dad during this last year.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Attica. Visitation for family and friends will also be held at Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials can be made to Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Attica, or The Willows at Willard, Legacy Lane.
