Sarah Linda Toner, affectionately known as Linda to her loved ones, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima.

Linda was born in Tiffin, on July 2, 1950, to the late Herbert Frank and Alice Eleanor (Newland) Patterson.

Linda’s vibrant spirit and warm heart touched many throughout her 74 years. Linda grew up in the close-knit community of Tiffin, where she attended public schools and established lifelong friendships. After her education, she embarked on a fulfilling career mostly in retail sales. Linda’s work was more than just a job, it was an opportunity to meet new people and form lasting connections.

Linda found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed cooking, often sharing her culinary creations with family and friends. She loved her small garden area where she could visit with her neighbors. It provided a colorful sanctuary for her to spend peaceful afternoons. Linda’s love for various puzzle books kept her mind sharp, and her home was always a reflection of the current season or holiday, decorated with an impeccable sense of style. Her weekly meetings with the “She Shed” girls were a source of laughter and camaraderie. Linda’s sense of humor and spirited nature made these gatherings memorable for all who attended. Her presence will be deeply missed by her circle of friends.

Linda’s love extended to her cherished fur babies, Mac, Maggie, and Frankie, who were her constant companions and sources of unconditional love. They along with her niece, Tammy Jeffrey-Quincy and nephews, Ashton Patterson and Frank “Boogie” Jeffrey, and a brother-in-law, Odell Jeffrey survive. Linda was the last of her siblings, joining her parents, sisters, Diane Jeffrey and Tina Patterson and a brother, Ron Patterson, all of whom preceded her in death.

Those who knew Linda would describe her as loving, funny, and spirited. She had the rare gift of brightening a room with her presence and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered. As we remember Linda, we are reminded of the words of Maya Angelou, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Linda indeed lived by this creed, ensuring that everyone she met felt important and loved.

Chronic COPD may have claimed her last breath, but Linda’s legacy will continue to breathe life into the memories of those she has left behind. Her spirit, forever etched in our hearts, will continue to inspire us to live fully, laugh often, and cherish the company of good friends. Linda’s life will be celebrated in the stories we share, the gardens we tend, and the love we give too our own fur babies. Her influence will persist in the beauty she brought in the world and the smiles she created. Linda’s journey on this earth has concluded, but the impact of her love and laughter will resonate for generations to come.

There will be a celebration of Linda’s life held at a later date. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with their arrangements.
