Shirley M. Burkart, 93, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria.
Shirley was born November 2, 1930 in Tiffin, to the late Warren and Eurie (Feasel) Lynch. She married James F. Burkart in Covington, KY on September 11, 1948 and he preceded her in death on November 22, 2011.
Shirley is survived by her children, Barbara Berry of Tiffin, Robert (Becky) Burkart of Cortez, CO, Jennifer (Gary) Perkins of Hilliard, Julie Palmer of Dickson, TN, John Burkart of Nashville, TN and Lori Edwards of Mount Juliet, TN, eight grandchildren, Andrew (Angie) Berry, LeighAnne (Eric) King, Chelsea (Noah) McKnight, Allison (Adam) Millson, Zachary and Zara Palmer, Dillon (Tessa) Edwards and Jessica Edwards, five great-grandchildren, Dominic, Alec, Anthony “Harry”, Lucia King, Avery Berry, and Emory and Joanna Edwards and a brother, William Lynch of Covington, KY.
Shirley worked in food service at Tiffin University and Heidelberg College until she retired. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Bettsville, Bettsville Mothers Club and a 1948 graduate of Bettsville High School. Shirley also served on the Bettsville and Vanguard School Boards. She had a passion for gardening and had the most beautiful flowers. Shirley loved to travel with her husband Jim and shared his love for the Cleveland Indians. They enjoyed summers of camping with family, watching the trains and freighters, and being the best grandparents.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Robert, Richard and Jack Lynch, four sisters, Alice Bushman, Beulah Dumm, Hazel Hanson and Cora Jean Lutz.
Graveside services for Shirley will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 29, 2024 at Pleasant Union cemetery in Old Fort. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, from noon until 2:00 p.m., at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin.
