Starr Elaine (Smith) Lanning, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, in Sandusky, Ohio. Born on October 24, 1954, in Fremont, Ohio, Starr was the cherished daughter of Wendell and Betty Smith.
Starr is survived by her devoted husband, Larry, and her loving children, Donald, daughter, Meranda and her husband Edward, and son, Darl and his wife Kara. She was a proud grandmother to Gage, Caleb, Chase, D’Andrae, Raynie, Hayes, and Annabelle, and a doting great-grandmother to Serenity, Juelz, Raden, AvieÅ„, Indiya, and Ameri. Starr also leaves behind her dear sisters, Brenda and her husband Don Gamertsfelder, Wendy and her husband, Joe Eakin, and Heidi and her husband Andy Hunt.
A deeply caring individual, Starr was known for her selflessness and dedication to her family. She often put the needs of her loved ones before her own, ensuring they had everything they needed. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, as she was a cherished friend to many.
Starr found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as spending time with friends and playing cards at the American Legion. Her commitment to community service was evident in her role as Auxiliary President, where she served with distinction for several years.
Starr's legacy of love, kindness, and service will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her unwavering dedication to her family and community has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Funeral services for Starr will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Engle-Shook Funeral Home in Bettsville. Visitation for family and friends will also be held on Friday, from 10:00 a.m., until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services on Friday, at Kansas cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bettsville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary or to Stein Hospice of Sandusky.
