Steven D. Huston, 70, of Tiffin, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Steve was born November 27, 1954, in Tiffin, to the late Gerald and Mina Belle Huston.
Growing up, Steve attended schools in Old Fort and Tiffin and worked various factory jobs in his younger years. Steve then mastered roofing at Republic Roofing, plumbing and heating at Dundore’s, and auto body repair at Remys, before owning his own shop, C-H Collision. Steve then moved onto truck driving, where he insisted his wife and daughter accompany him on many very eventful trips. It was not unusual for his daughter, Heidi, to be sitting on the dog house, singing Eddie Rabbit songs to her dad as he drove down the road.
Steve then decided to try law enforcement. He started with the Tiffin Police Department Auxiliary while going to Tiffin University, graduating from the police academy in 1985. After graduation, Steve worked for the Bloomville Police Department and then the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, retiring in 2012. Steve’s previous work skills came into play while at the Sheriff’s Office when he was put in charge of installing radios and putting decals on cruisers. After retirement, Steve watched his granddaughters, Cecilia and Lily, from infancy, until they both started kindergarten. You could often find them at McDonalds, meeting up with his friends and getting the girls ice cream for breakfast.
Steve always enjoyed going to his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events and activities. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, drag racing his 1969 Roadrunner and Nick’s S-10 (even on the street!), jet skiing, hunting, shooting, going to gun raffles, woodworking, and making furniture and crafts. He especially enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycles, going on many out of state rides with great friends, including a trip to Missouri just for supper.
Steve is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Amanda (Jacobs) Huston; daughter, Heidi (Gerald) Vanover; son, Nicholas (Juli) Huston; sister, Cindy Feasel; brother, Bud (Agnes) Huston; brothers-in-law, Rocky Jacobs and Mike Cleland; four grandchildren, JR (Brittney) Vanover, Amber Vanover, Cecilia Huston, and Lilian Huston; four great-grandchildren, Oliver, Kinley, Abe, and Sofia Vanover, and soon-to-be great-grandson. Steve is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3-6 p.m., on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin. Funeral services for Steve will also be held on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., at the funeral home. There will be no burial held at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to F.A.C.T.
