Velma Stacy Obituary

Velma Lucille Stacy, 96, of Old Fort passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at the Willows in Bellevue under Heartland Hospice Care.

Velma was born October 4, 1927, on the home farm in Tiffin, to the late Lester C. and Irene (Routzahn) Hall. She married Dale L. Stacy in Tiffin on March 9, 1947, he preceded her in death.

Velma is survived by her children, Doris Irene (Paul) Herringshaw, of Bowling Green, Dennis Lee (Jane) Stacy of Old Fort and Douglas Lynn (Holly) Stacy of Old Fort; Eight grandchildren, Sarah Brooks, Brian Herringshaw, David Stacy, Dawn Thayer, Darla Larson, Daniel Stacy, Dean Stacy and Diana Podach; Thirteen great grandchildren.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Carl Hall and Glenn Hall.

Velma was a lifelong homemaker, farmwife, and community volunteer. She was a member of the Old Fort Church and a 1946 graduate of Scipio-Republic High School.

Velma shared her homemaker skills with hundreds of 4-H members over the 65 years she served as a Seneca County 4-H Advisor with the Sew Sharp 4-H Club.  She is credited for teaching countless young ladies the art of sewing, cooking and community service.

She had an active role in the family farm, raising Jersey Cattle, grain crops and vegetables. She was a part of Vel-A-Da Inc. with her husband, Dale and eldest son, Dennis & Jane. She was an active member of the Seneca County Jersey Breeders, the Federated Farm Women and Farm Bureau. She loved the county fair and volunteered in many ways over the years. She was inducted into the Seneca County Ag Hall of Fame in 1986.

Other ways Velma was active in her community included Old Fort and Pomona Grange, Seneca County Republican Party, Election Day Pole Worker, Eastern Stars, Seneca County Health Board Volunteer, served as an EMT for Seneca County, and as a member of the Old Fort Lions Club.

Velma was an avid sports fan and loved watching anything the kids, grandkids or great grandkids were playing. She’ll be missed in the stands at basketball games this winter.
